Your First Visit

Complimentary Consultation Appointment Your First Visit

The purpose of your complimentary consultation firstly, is to determine whether orthodontic treatment is right for you. During this 45-minute visit, Dr. Mitchell will be able to discuss your potential treatment needs as well as your treatment options, approximated length of treatment, and best recommended timing of treatment. This first visit will include the following:

  • Review of dental and medical history
  • A set of digital oral/facial photos will be taken and displayed for review during the appointment
  • A Panoramic X-ray
  • Dr. Mitchell will provide a complete oral exam and discuss potential treatment options as well as any related questions you may have
  • Cost and payment options will be addressed

When you leave this appointment, we want you to feel as though you are able to make a well-informed decision about your treatment. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions necessary to make that the case, and we will do our best to provide all the information possible.

Records Appointment

Your second visit with us will be a records appointment. Records are essential in order to verify Dr. Mitchell's original diagnosis and ensure that your treatment is individualized to your specific needs. Occasionally, it may be necessary to revise the original treatment plan based on this information. If that is the case, Dr. Mitchell will discuss with you the necessary changes and answer any questions you may have prior to initiating treatment. Records include the following:

  • An additional X-ray
  • Impressions for models of your upper and lower teeth

**We understand that your time is important, so at your request, we are happy to proceed with records the same day as and immediately following your consultation appointment. We would love to save you the extra trip!

What happens next?

During the visit following completion of your records, Dr. Mitchell will initiate your treatment, which for most patients includes placement of braces. Aside from having the braces removed at the end of treatment, expect that this will be your longest appointment. Please allow approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Home care for the braces will be discussed at the end of the appointment. Then, you will be on your way to a new smile!

Scheduling Appointments

Visiting the orthodontist every 4–8 weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Regular checkups last between 20–40 minutes. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are scheduled around your busy schedule, so you will spend less time in the dental chair, and more time enjoying the things you love to do.

Please appreciate that our time is also valuable. Of course, we understand that "life happens", so if you're running late or need to reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do everything we can to accommodate you.

**Note: It is our policy that after missing two appointments and failing to provide notice, you may incur charges for any future missed appointments.

We want to do everything we can to help expedite your treatment process while making it a comfortable and enjoyable one. When you're ready to schedule your first appointment, call our practice (502) 228-9494; we're looking forward to working with you!
